Government said they i did not intend at present to lvsnnie the system of nominated immigration, but wonkl probably make a statement regarding their future intentions. In answer to Bradshaw, Goven ment said it was trae that two females had hi en committed to Wellington asylum, boing sane at the time, and the Magis tn&te would be called on to report and explain. \ /ogel made a Ministerial statement j to tlie effect that the Government had under consideration a modification of the tariff in accordance with the j suggestions made. The work was an important one and not to be dealt with hurriedly. Therefore Govern nient askec to be allowed tot !i« follow , ing evening on which to bring in new j resolutions affecting the tit iff. A } discussion ensued, in the couise of which the point was raided whether the House eonld proceed to the con sideration of the new set of resolutions. The Speaker ruled that they could, and the matter dropped. The Children's Adoption Bill, providing that magistrates may make orders for the adoption of children was passed amid a good deal of opposition, from lawyers in the House.
