The Victorian Premier, Mr Service, has received replies from the Govern nient of South Australia, and Queensland, expressing their readiness to join the protest against a postponement of the Federation Enabling Bill. Mr Service has addressed a communication to Sir Alexander Stuart, Premier of N.S.W. in which he. states his willingness to abandon his opposition to the suggested delay, provided that Stnart will nndertvke to Rubmit ! to the Government of N.S.W. the 31st clause of the Bill in its original form. It is announced that the Russian Government has put forward a claim to occupy a position commanding Zuln'kar Pass, alleging as a reason that it is the shortest road between the Russian position at Akrobat, and Mulaharia. Paka (sic) lies through that pass. It is also announced, that Russia now wishes the delimitation enquiry to take place on the Afghan frontier, and not in London. Mr Rothschild, headed the poll by a large majority. A deputation headed by the Righl Hon. Robert Fowler, M.P, and th( Lord Mayor of London, waited upor Lord George Hamilton, [first Lord o: the Admiralty, to-day. His Lordshij stated in reply to the question put bj the deputation that the ' iovemmeni had decided to re classify ironclads and discard those which wereinefficient He further stated that the Govern ment would cooperate with the varioui Colonies in the work of defending theii principal towns.
