THE CRIMINAL LAW AMEND MENT BILL.
A meeting was held in Exeter Hall London, on July 16, under the auspices of the Salvjition Army, to discuss the question of the. i.etter protection, j by legislation, of young girls. The following letter was read from the Queen in reply to a communication from Mrs Booth on the subject: — Blmoral Castle, June 6. Thfc Dowager Duchess of Roxburg presents her compliments to Mrs Booth, and is desired by the Queen to acknowledge Mrs Booth's letter of the. 3rd instant, and to say thsit her Majesty, while fully sympathising upon the painful subject to which it refers, has already had communication thereon wi h a lady closely connected with the Government, to whom Mrs Booth's letter will be immediately forwarded. Mr Booth, who presided, in commenting on the above, said it was only a small crumb of comfort, just a little sympathy, but they wanted something more than sympathy. He only wished that the Queen wonld govern as well as reign, if only for a week. We. should have a better state of fiff'iirs. He proposed starting a large home fo< with 100 acreß of land H?li.-<ining. The home wonld cost £10,000. A oreutlenian had already promised tlie necessnry site.
