At Stratford a strong fre«li|wiiid drove the flames into the town, and already 34 houses have been burnt. ! A special train with fire engine arid brigade have bnen sent from New Plymouth. The town hall is amongst the buildings destroyed. About 30 families are left homeless, and a relief fund has been started, The town of Ormondville, in Hawkes Bay is also surrounded l>y fires, and little hopes are entertained of Having the houses, as there is no water supply.
