THIRTEEN MEN KILLED IN A COAL-MINE.

+. Suit Luke, Utah, January 15. — Nr ws of the Almy disaster is exceedingly slow coming in. The best account received is a letter written the day after the explosion by a son *o his farther in this city: — "An explosion occurred here last night," he wrote, at 1 1 .30 o'clock. It was most awful, and siokens me when I think of it There were only 13 men in the mine, two of whom were blown out of it. One" man was thrown half a mile out of the mine, and when found his body ! was burned to a crisp. The other was blown to atbms. The head, one leg, and the trunk of the body have been found. I picked up. part of his skull. The other.- 11 .were buried up in the mine. We cannot . get down because of fire damp. The fir.c and flames, ifißiiing from the mouth of the slope, continued to come for three minutes, and during that time there was a hiss ing noise, deafening in the extreme. No one can realise the amount of gas that was in the mine. The flames rose in the air, as near as I can estimate, 600 or 800 feet. They extend over half a mile from the mouth of the slope, aud during that time timber, rock, iron, wheels, cars, coal, and all manner of debris were flying through the air. Rocks were thrown clear through houses. Women were flying in their night clothes almost crazy with fear. The whole earth was shaking. J I could not stand on my feet, and was > knocked from one place to the another. « My brother William's house was 1 smashed. Jaraei Hendry and I slept 1

i in a loom were a rock flew throngh the , roof of the house, broke a cupboard, and , smashed a trunk, but we escaped without a scratch. Five or six persons were hurt in houses, but none seri* 1 onsly. This is about all. They are trying to take brattice down the slope to see if cannot get down to the entries > where the men are."
