Jackson, and successfully operated upon for eight or ten stumps. As the dentist (Mr Sanders) was, however, endeavoring to pull out another, the forceps broke off at the joint. At this moment Ihe girl gave two or three inspirations, and the dentist and doctor were frightened to find that she had swallowed a piece of the instrument, which was quite an itich loijg, and weighed 63 grains. One can imagine the consternation and all that followed. Thrf girl became very ill, coughed violently, was in great pain, and had to keep her bed. Ultimately she was taken to St Thomas's fiospital, London, and there Sir William M'Cprmick performed an operation. It was a question of life and death, and fortunately and very providentially it ended in life for the gut The windpipe was opened, and for an hour and a -half the eminent sutgeon was searching for an endeavoring to get oat the piece of steel, trying several instruments. At one time he almost gave up in despair, *i the instruments would not hold on t6 the obstacle, which slipped away. A last effort was niade, and to the delight 6f the operator and all present, this time success was achieved.
