MANUKA FLAT
The Company's tunnel is now in betwen four aid five hundred feet. There is a little change iv the country since our lait report; boulders in the gravel Items* hi rarer, aud a greatar quantity of l»la:k sard. The grav-1 has not dipped much since striking it in the roof ; sonn-tiinos it is going in th« same grade as the tunnel. Prospecting Ins not yet found any gold, bir., is the country is cluui.'intj,' it is likely to t» met wit!) ,mv i-y. Judging by ,hs ups and downs in the bed rock there cannot be any doubt that ihe men arnow on a river ted formation^ and the distance now pierced shows that tluv are well in under the Flat. It is \»-A: knowu that deep leads on big flu carry the gold nearer to the centre than on the ed n\ and if this theory proves correct they have a long dt3-. tance yet to drive before striking any-* thing payable. The rock now being worked is all blasting ground, at.d, considering tlia*. only two men ;;re employed, gooc headway is being made.
