apparently with a knife. On the fece were several deep gashes, and the tongue even was slashed. A bloodstained knife was found on the pre raises, and there appeared to be evidence of a struggle. Tbe sister could give no clear account of the affair, tinl she police think that she must have attacked her unfortunate brother, who was somewhat younger than she, while he was lying in bed, and inflicted these desperate wounds. On Bnnday the injured man, for whom no hopes whatever had been entertained, died in the hospital. An inquest was opened on Monday on the body. It appeared from the evidence of the brother of Brophy, who discovered the body on his return horn« on Friday sight, that his sister and deceased had been on bad terms for three months. She would not prepare his meals, and used to irritate him. When she wa« asked what had happened to her brother, she said two boys brought him to the door in that condition and ran away. The jury returned a verdict of " Willful murder" against Mary Brophy.
