■* (from our own corukspondent.) Auckland, 6 Michael fLumey has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for at* tempted murder of his wife. He was acquitted of shooting at her paramour, Geo. M'Guire. James Dodds, for attempted rape, was sentenced to three months, and to receive 25 lashes. George Harcourt, lato manager at the Thames, was sentenced at the Supreme Court this morning to twelve months hard labor forjemhezzlement.to which he pleaded guilty. Henry Williams, for larceny of pig-iron, received 6 months hard labor. Gisbobne, 8 A n elderly man named John Finlayson, who has been missing for a week, was found drowned in the river this looming. Deceased was well known and highly respected. He is known to have been possessed of considerable means, and has property both here and down South. He is supposed to have committed suicide, as he has been in a despondent state for some time past, and used to live by himself in his house. Three £1 notes were found on a table covered by a billy. Blenheim, 7. Mr J. M. Hutchison, J.P., was presented yesterday on the occasion of his 70th birthday, with an illuminated address and purse of 50 sow, in recognitiou of his services as the oldest member and senior elder of the Presbyterian Church. Duneton, 7 A new industry styled " posedret works," for utilising night-soil, has been established. The night-soil is deodorised, dried, ground into powder, and then sold as manure. At his meeting to-night Mr Bracken explained the circumstances of hissing, ing in the House of Representatives, and wound up by singing the game song to the audience.
