Received Oct. 28, 10.10 p.m. London, 27 A meeting of Agents-General convoked by Graham Berry for the purpose of compiling a telegram to their respective Governments with reference to the Imperial Institute was held today. A message which has been despatched states that the Priuce of Wales wishes the exhibits of the Colonial Exhibition to remain as the nucleus for the Institute, and requests the permission of the Colonial Governments for this purpose. It is announced that the Qneen will open the Institute in person in June next A committee has been formed under the presidency of the Prince of Wales, and includes Sir Henry James Goschen, and three other English representatives, besides Colonial members. Sydney, 28 Sailed— Mararoa, for New Zealand. Proposals have been suhmitted to the Synod of the Church of England that the Primate of Australia be created an Archbishop. In reply to this intimation the Socialist leaders have demanded on what authority this is forbidden. Capetown, 27 The Kaffirs of Pondoland who had assembled on the borders of Xesibiland and threatening the invasion of that district have now quietly dispersed. London, 28 The inhabitants of Natal have demanded that the British Government shall assume the protectorate over Zululand. Stanhope, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has however, expressed his dissent from this view. A sweepstake of £1000 each between the Bard, Milton, Bendigo, and Ormonde, which had been arranged to I take place at Newmarket has been abandoned. Calcutta, 28 Sir West Ridgeway has left Cabul for Peshawur. Religions distubances have occurred at the town of Lismore on the Richmond river in consequence of the lecture delivered Vy O'Goman. Melbourne, 29 The Eastern Extension Co. have formally given notice that the tariff between New Zealand and Australia, will on the Ist November be raised to 10/- for the first ten words, and one shilling for every succeeding word. Meteor is heavily backed for the Melbourne Cup at 12 to 1 ; Little John, Isonomy and Sir Vermine, 9 to 1; Trenton, 15 to 1, and Com motion, 30 to 1. London, 29 The Standard to-day publishes a paragraph stating that the French Government have accepted one of tbe principle proposals made by England relative to New Hebrides, but object to the clause by which the French marines recently landed in those islands shall be withdrawn, and neither Governments to land troops in New Hebrides without the consent, oi the other. Sofia, 29 The Bulgarian Government have declared this city and the town of Varna in a state of seige, which General Eaulbars has demanded to have removed, Received Oct. 80, 1.45 p.m. Lisbon, 29. News has been received from Mozambique that King Gongumahana of Zambesi, with a force of 30,000 natives, has revolted against the Portuguese authority in that country. On receipt of this news the Government gave orders for the embarkation of a large body of troops to sail for Mozambique forthwith. Melbourne 30 A north wind is blowing and the weather looks threatening. Kiora and Telephone have been scratched for the Derby. Adelaide, 30 Shaw and Lily white's team of cricketers, who arrived by the Cuzco, consists of Barlow, Briggs, Barnes, I Bates, Flowers, Gunn, Lohman, I Manrice Read, Shaw, Sherwin, Shrewsbury and Lilly white. Received Oct. 80, 8.40 p.m. Melbourne, 30 The first day's racing of the Victoria Racing Club's Spring Meeting is being held to-day at Flemington. The weather is fine and the attendance on all parts of the ground large. His Excellency Sir Henry Loch, was present accompanied by Lord Carrington, Sir William Robinson, and Sir George Strachan. For the first event on the card, Melbourne Stakes, one mile and a quarter, ten horses started, with the following result :— Boolka and Isonomy a dead heat for first place, Bravo third. For the Derby the following horses started :— Aglaos, Chesltam, First Consul, Kingfish, Madehna, Trident and Volcano. The raoe resulted as followH : — Trident 1 Cheshnm 2 A«laos ... ... ... 3 Volcano was first to get away and
led the field at a terrible pace in the interests of Trident. After going three quarters of a mile Chesbam assumed the leading position in entering the straight, and led Trident by a I length, Aglaos being third. Half way down the straight Chesham appeared 0 he running easily, but Trident under great punishment made a gallant effort, and at the distance poßt was on level terms with the leader and gradual ly forging ahead won V»y a length amid great enthusiasm, A glaos was third. Later in the aft.-moon Isonomy and Boolka ran off the dead heat for the Melbourne Stakes, the forming winning easily by a length and a half. Received Oct. 81, 13.80 p.m A DELUDE, 30 Shaw and Lilywhite's Eleven commenced a match to-day against fifteen of South Australia. At 4 o'clock this afternoon the English team had lost one wicket for 189 runs. Sophia 29 The followers of Zankop, one of the authors in the arrest and deposition of Prince Alexander, are endeavoring to overthrow the Government of Stainhonlnflf. It was in consequence of this movement that this city and the town j of Varna were declared to be in a state of seige. General Kaulbars has renewed his 1 complaint as to the manner in which the Bulgarians who favor the Kuesian views are being maltreated, covered by the supporters of the Regency. The Russian Agent lays much emphasis on the gravity of the situation in Bui garia. St. Petebsburo, 80 The despatch of Russian war vessels to Varna is the proposed demanding of the release of all persons inplicated in the arrest and deposition of Prince Alexander. It is generally believed that this is a foreshadow of the Russian occupation of and entry to Bulgaria. London, 29 It is announced that the November series of the Colonial wool auctions close on November 23rd.
