CUISINE SLANG.
Has it ever struck you what a number of terms belonging to cuisine are applied to man in different circumstances ? Sometimes he is "basted," he "boils with rage," Is ''baked" with heat, and "burns" with love or jealousy. He is often and "done brown." We "dress" him with care, and occasionally he is "cut up," "devoured " with a flame, "eaten up" with care, and occasionally he Is "fried." We "cook" his "goose" for him, and often he makes a "goose" of himself. We make a "hash" of him, and sometimes he makes a "hash" of something else. He gets Into "hot water," and sometimes into a "mess ;" is aiade into "mince-meat," and is ; itfin in a "pickle." We are often :.s';ed to •'toast" him, and be 5s frequently pat into a " stew," or is in a "stew," no one knows ■- hy. A "soft" is "half-bakfd,' a.id one severely handled ie v :!• peppered." A cheeky yoim- imp is a "saucebox," and a ri-'.h father is made to fork out.
