Notts SEPTEMBER. 4— Scarborough, v. Mr C. I. Thornton's England Eleven It will be noticed that four matches hara been arranged against All England Elevens. Several of these are fixed for dates on whioh first-class county matches are to be played. This clashing of dates was unavoidable, and m commenting on it Mr Perkins mentioned that as the Australians were to come, tha counties must give way on the question of letting off their players. If one oounty would not do so it could not.be expeoted that others would do so. They did not want any continuation of the " dog m the manger " business, and it should b 9 understood that any player should be let off who might be required m the matches fa question. If they were not prepared to do this they might just as well cable to Australia telling the would-be visitors that they would be heartily welcome, but that they mast not expeot to meet any representative English elevens.
