The .English, after several - days' artillery activity, attacked on Monday, following a violent increase of fire, on n. 20 kilometres front. As a result of bard .fighting they penetrated our positions.on foads radiating- from Arras, but failed to brea.fc through. Tw-o of our. divisions' suffered , considora bly, in stubbornly resisting a superior number of the enemy. We penetrated beyond the third . English line south-east of Ypres. A French attack at La,ffaix failed.
