PARCELS FOR THE TROOPS.
WORK OF MARLBOROUGH LADIES' EXECUTIVE.
During the month of March the Ladies' Executive sent away 500 parcels to our soldiers in the trenches in France, consisting of jam, milk, tobacco, anti-vermin, proof shirts, notebooks, socks, and boot hices. Farewell gifts of mufflers and balaclavas have been given to the men of Marlborough leaving New Zealand, also leather waistcoats. Fruit ' has been sent to Featherston and Trentham camps. Cakes, chutney, jam, and nuts have been forwarded ■to the troopships for use of our men on their long voyage liome. Numerous letters have been received from France thanking the people of Marlboro ugh for Christmas presents and cakes. These letters are in a box at the Patriotic Rooms, and may be read to anyone interested overy Thursday and Friday, when the rooms are always open. Balaclavas are wanted, and any comforts will be gladly received. A case of new clothes for Belgium children was sent care the High. Commissioner.
It is proposed to hold a "bag day" early in May, and sell the bags for Is each. Everyone is invited to start making bags and send them filled to the Patriotic Roomsi Trinkets, cups, wearing apparel—in fact., anything may be put in the bags. The Ladies' Executive Committee received the following goods during ■the month of March for., the Red Cross hospitals and soldiers in the trenches:—
