■ WELLINGTON, April 12; '■■ A \ fatal fire oGcurred oarly:. this morning, ; when the Wellington Hotel, at the corner of Sydney Street vand Molesworth Street, was ' practically destroyed. -About twenty inmates ■were; in the hotel sft the time, several being-Maoris.. All escaped -with the exception of Patrick Twohill, a wellknown identity; 74 years.of age, who was burnt to v -death. ; The fire is supposed to have, had its prigin in the sitfciug-^rooru,' the theory being that it was /caused by a cigarette or lighted' thatch"; The building was about half a century eld, and was owned by Staples and C 0.,. brewers: ' It was insured in the Atlas Company for £226(3, and the contents in the Commercial for £600. ...
