Mr P. o'Sullivan has received a telegram from the Hon. Sir James Allen stating that Sergeant J. McDonald died of wounds on March S9th; . Sergeant McDonald was H at one time employed on the locaLrailway section, and just pijpviously to donning khoki was transferred to Wellington, where he enlisted in the 4th battalion of the 3rd New Zealand Rifle * Brigade. Sergeant McDonald served his time in one of the Irish regiments before comine; out to New Zealand, and was -the ideal stamp of a soldier. He made a large circle of friends in Blenheim, where he was exceedingly popular. At the time o: his transfer-to Wellington he-was an active member of. the committee of the Blenheim .Working Men'h Glub.
