PARIS, April 12. Much admiration is beirfg expressed here at the new British tactics, by which the front of attack is widened as the attack .'progresses instead of narrowing as in previous Allied offensives. Thus it is now.impossible for the enemy to make flask attacks, as no salient is produced. The British front doubled in two days like the opening of a fan. Its left commands the Douai plain, the centre is within seven miles of Douai, and the right is dangerously threatening the German Hues with envelopment, the whole" progressing' towards Lens.
LONDON, April 12. German official: We repulsed attacks at Vimy, Fampoux, Cyst, and Monehy. After frequent assaults British attacks, including cavalry and armored cars, north of Monehy wera broken down. The enemy again heavily bombarded St. Quentin. The artillery battle is increasing in the western Champagne. We bombed camps and munition dumps in Vesle and St. Capps, and camps and munition dumps in the "V^esle and Suippes valleys. WASHINGTON, April 12. Nothing official or unofficial is known here regarding the German peaeV overtures. The feeling expressed is that the United Staoes is opnospd to a separate peace. . Colonel House, President Wilson's confidential adviser, also denies that lie is involved in the overtures.
A German attempt to destroy extensive irrigation works in New Mexico is reported.. The outrage was frustrated by the • guards, who arrested the dynamitards. Mr^ Balfour will be accompanied on his visit, to America by Admiral TJe Chair, General Bridges, and the governor of the Bank of England. The French mission is expected to comprise M. Viviani, M. Octave Homberg, General Joffre, and • General Foch. The mission will inquire into American's ideas of peace terms.
NEW YORK, April 12. Private advices from Wall Street state that Lloyds are wagering ten to one that the war will, end in three months.
It is announced that the American navy is assuming control of the At-lantic-and the Carribean Sea.
