SCOTTISH CONCERT.

Among the tragedies of the war none is perhaps more sad than that of the strong men in the prime of life disabled and reduced to helplessness by being wounded on the battlefield and left for days to lie where they have fallen, through, the inadequacy of the Ambulance or Red' Cross units. Every-great war in the past has left its wreckage of such men, and*their'treatment has not always been a credit to the country which benefited by the sacrifice. By reason of its magnitude the present great war will leave larger numbers of such men than any former struggle, and it lies, not merely for Marlborough but for all the Dominion, to see that the soldiers are cared for in a manner which will show that New Zsa landers recognise and are grateful for the sacrifices they have made and are still making. The Scottish Society of- Marlborough recognises that the local Red Cross people are a most consistent and energetic body, and are deserving of.-'all'the ' support that the people of this district can give to help in the • good work they are now engaged in, and, with the object of helping their funds?, the Society has decided to give the Red Cross half the profits of the forthcoming concert to be held in His Majesty's Theatre on Tuesday, May Ist, and for which the Society has concluded.engagements with the very best artists available in the Dominion. In addition to Madame Anderson, the brilliant Scottish soprano, it has secured the services of Mr H. G. Wood, a melodious tenor, whose voice hos been heard in many climes. Tom Jaffrey, of Aberdeen, Scotland, the finest exponent of Highland dancing that has ever visited the Antipodes, has also been secured. The Scottish folk and their friends are in for a true Scottish-night. How much the Red Cross funds will benefit by the event rests with the Society and its friends! The box plan is at Cartwright's.
