HAVELOCK NOTES. ANZAC DAY SERVICES.

Express Special Service.

The usual Anzac Day services were held in Havelock. At 9.30 a.m. the school children, teachers and others assembled at the Soldiers' Memorial, and a short memorial service was held, at which the Rev. A. T. Milgrew was the speaker, and the Rev. C. Brown read the lesson. At 8 p.m. the chairman of the Town Board, Mr J. R. Buncombe, presided at a gathering of citizens in the town hali, and on this occasion the Rev. A. T. Milgrew conducted the prayers and read the Lesson. Before beginning his address, the Rev. C. Brown asked the congregation to stand in silence for a few moments in memory of those who lost their lives in the Great War. After speaking of the memorial nature of the service : he read, with comments, extracts from H. W. Austin's book, "Spiritual and Moral Rearmament," and stressed the point that a peaceful world must be built first by individuals, then societies, and the nations would follow. Suitable hymns were sung and the "March on the Death of a Hero" was played by Mrs A. T. Milgrew. PLUNKET MEETING. A committee meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the Sun day school on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs A. T. Milgrew, the president, being in the chair. At a previous meeting, stated the president, it had been de~ cided to hoia a baby carnival, and this meeting was called in order to choose a candidate for Havelock. She was pleased to report that supporters in other parts of the district had signified their willingness to take part in this effort. Four nominations were received, and resulted in a choice by ballot of Judith Leggot, with Helen Wells a close second. Mrs S. Reader was appointed organiser. It was decided to close the voting on Friday, June 16, and to hold a children's party in the town hali on the afternoon of Saturday, June 17, to finalise the carnival. ! PERSONAL.
