[special to manawatu herald.] Wellington, Thursday, 7 p.m. The appointment of Mr Walter Johnston as Postmaster- General is considered very satisfactory here. He entered on his new duties today. The Governor lefc in the Hinemoa for the South this afternoon, accompanied by the Premier. He is expected back about the 25th. The Asylum enquiry was continued this afternoon. Miss Brigdon, acting matron, was the principal witness examined. Her evidence related to matters of detail and was of very little public interest. The prizes won at the Nelson firing were distributed yesterday afternoon. Much dissatisfaction exists amongst the representatives on account of the Caibine men being docked one-third and the Riflemen _, 2«5 per cent of their winnings, owing shortness of funds. - The 'Frisco mail is expected here late tomorrow evening.
