Shannon.
— . — (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The long expected rain has come at last, a little too rough at first. One or two unlucky farmers have lost several lambs from the effects of the hailstorm on Wednesday night. I understand that the Shannon Ferry is fo be given up by the present contractor at the end of the month. That means I suppose that the new punt is really a certainty. Well, if they do put a new punt on, its to be hoped that a new ferryman will also be detailed to do the honours of crossing the public, or else dose the present man with "energy powders"! to make him understand that the public have Time to consider and can't afford to waste it. A sharp, shock of earthquake was felt here at 9 10 p.m., on Thursday evening, direction east to west pro ceeded by an unusually loud rumble. I notice that some of the settlers are commencing to make use of the new pound. Further on we may, perhaps, see them hard at it before the nearest J.P.
