The Maori King

I Hia Maori Majesty paid Palmerston a visit this forenoon, and was hospitably entertained by Mr Charles Walker, at his apartments m the Commercial Hotel. He afterwards with a small body-guard visited different places of business m the Square, the other hotels included, and admired our rising ana prosperous town. He seemed to half expect a formal reception from the Borough Council, but this was not accorded him. There was a constant stream of visitors yesterday evening to his temporary place of sojourn — the pah atAwapuni, which presented the appearance of a fair, with the numerous assemblage of Europeans, and great piles of provisions. There was a police tent adjacent, and all dogs found straying were' taken possession of, and were released on their owners contributing to the JN'ative exchequer. Good order was maintained, dueprobabiy ! to the tact that no " waipiro" was allowed wivhm the precincts of the pah. It was rumoured that a war-dance was to take place this alternoon, but nothing definite appeared to be known on the subject, The further progress of the royal journey will probably be continued into iLawke's Bay on Monday, en route for Waikato.
