Personal Explanation.

This morning 1 , a man named George Sherwood Adams, called on us m reference to an alleged very untruthful and unfeeling 1 [> vagraph whinb appeared m tfaiurday's Mancwutn Times, alluding i.o v a man e^gatrotl m deepening a wnll for Mr Graff." It is insinuated that the man was the worso of drink, ani m that state " threw himself on the ground and uttered a series of most unearthly yells, arousing the whole neighborhood." It appears that the man, who is Adams, is liable to Bevere intestinal cramps, which cause him m« tense agony, ol which the writer m question makes sport, and unfeelingly suggests that " a bucket ar two ef water would soon hare stopped his howling." The poor man was certainly taken home ( m a cart, but was helpless through excessive illness »nd physical pain. Hot fomentations were applied for several hours, with other remedies to relieve his suffering, a bottle of medicine having bean alßo procured from Dr Marriner. We have made certain enquiries, and have every reason to believe that Adams' statement as to his serious illness is substantially true and correct. He feels the effect of his attack still, and is ap » parently a man of delicate constitution. He is much annoyed that the Times should have published such an incorrect statement regarding him, and has appealed to us to place the matter m a proper light before the public. He has I a wife and family, and we hear is indusI trious and respectable, and not given to drink, nor ever has been. He com* plains bitterly that tho newspaper m question should have made sport of his suffering by insinuating that he was \ drunk, and by giving quite a distorted version of what occurred, injure hi'B reputation m the eyes of the public. The publication of a paragraph differing so essentially from facts does seem to nave been very indiscreet, thoughtless, and m i bad taste, to say the least of it.
