It allowed the birds to get to- the caterpillers, wHereas they cannot. get at them m the standing grain. The - furrows being ploughed stopped the caterpillers, which gave the HUrds '(wh'd came : 6n thVstripg b^^ufidreds : after the caterpillers) a stiMette* ; ctance. -If Mr Tate had not adopted the above he believes he j would have lost quite one*half of a fine crop of oats this season;' which is now ready for cutting.
