At a quarter to three this morning a fire broke out ia Jameson's grocery store on Lambton Quay, and obtained a firm hold before the fire brigade arrived, or water could be procured, Jameson's shop, and Madame De Launay's (modiste) were entirely destroyed, and all stock removed from MeCredies, ironmonger, which was once or twice alight. ■'..... . A strong N.W. wind was blowing, but fortunately the/building 'next, to Jameson's on the leu side was a hrick one, Whtakot's the book-seller, This stopped tha progress of the fire, which would otherwise certainly have been a very extensive fire. • Insurances are not yet ascertained.
