The Wellington Press has been for a lengthened period boasting of the successful floating of the Wellington* Manawatu Railway Oompartyj and urging the settlers of the Middle IslanVlf if they desired to connect the East and West Coasts by rail, to take, a leaf out of their book, -and form a 1 company for the purpose. If we had placed any reliance on their statements, we should have believed that nearly all the capital required had ! been 'subscribed* -m Ihe' Wellington provincial district, and there was no doubt as to the undertaking being carried on to a successful issue. It has, however, recently transpired that this much ; yauuted 'company is already m financial straits. The only monoy raised is a loan of £50,000 raised ff6nrtn"e*^ellingl'6n v *Tru"sT and* Loan Company, which will soon be absorbed. An attempt to float a loan in~ Victoria to carry on^he wor^ having • failed, the directors, taking advantage of Sir Julius Voxel's visit to the Empire City, liave T secured his . servipes to raise a loan m" the London markef.It is the general impression thateithefr; m the nesfe or foliowing" session of Parliament, .the -.company:, wi,U ; attempt to foist tbeir undertaking on to ihe colony. — Southern exchange.
