A Dangerous Practice.
A short time- ago a handsome young woman called at a Vienna hospital, stating she had become suddenly deaf m one ear, and wished to be treated. Bub the cause of her deafness she refused to reveal to anybody but Professor Gruber, the specialist. This gentleman was soon m attendance, and after a good deal of coaxing managed to extract the following information from the hesitating and blushin? maid : — Her i a tended had just returned from a long journey. She had gone to the 3tation to meet him, he put his arms round her, pressed his, lips to her right ear, and gave hfr a resounding kiss. At the same moment she felt a sharp twinge, and has been deaf ever since. Professor Gruber at once madea local examination, and announced a rupture of the tympanum, resulting from too hearty a kiss. L*t this be a warning to all young ladies about to marry, acd : also to those who wander unwittingly under the sacred mistletoe at Christmastide. | Do not struggle when a kiss is impending, but allow it to fall m the proper place, otherwise an ear may come within the line of fire and deafness ensue.
