The Alleged Dummyism in Otago.
(by telegraph"), (united press association.") Dunedin, March 29. Land Board to-day received a full report from the Government auctioneer concerning the recent sale of deferred payment pastoral lands. The auctioneer gives particulars as to the buyer of each section, who did the bidding, whose cheque was received as deposit, &c. In regard to one purchaser named Phillip Young, farmer, of Clarence Plains, Tasmania, Mr Martin adds : — " In reply to the usual question put by Mr Harlow, the salesman, as to postal address and occupation the embarrassment and apparent ignorance of the purchaser attracted ray attention. I therefore put the the following questions to him : * How long have you been here ? When did you arrive ? Have you ever seen or been on the country?' The answers were: /I arrived a few days ago, and have not s^en the country/ and he could only give Hobart as his address." The Land Board hold a special meeting to-morrow to consider Ihe report.
