A correspondent writes to an English paper:—" The following" extract from a letter ifoxa by brother, who has been m Australia for many years, may intere&t your readers ;— An accident that happened lately at an election m a Queensland sugar district throws some light upon the ways of the isugar kings. j The election ' Wa ! s v a close ' onej and the planters were doing their utmost to returiit their candidate, who was opposed by a business man, for the township of the district. 'D^-^-n you, sir/ cried an .excited planter to a storekeeper, who Was j bold enopgh. to support the aotiplanter candidate ,; ,' didn't I bring . my niggers, to your store and let you charge them what you liked ifory pur rubbish ? And now^ you vote against us V ' * And ■ yon, sir,' retorted the unabashed' storekeeper, * what it you did ? 'Didn't I pij.yvu #25 per cent, for doing it ? ' The: accusation .was not denied." , :
