Bather an amusing- incident occurred on the arrival of the Haia afc Wellington on her last trip, so the \Vaag*nui Herald was informed by a passenger A. gentleman, somewhat advanced m years, and of not to jovial aspect, was surrounded immediately on Alighting at the wh.irf by a crowd of " toulers * for the different hotels. A. Babel- like din greeted him, from which he found great difficulty m escipiu^. " Empire, sir," cried one indefatigable toufc. "N"6" replied the grumpy old gentleman m not too.ple*sant tones. " City Buffet, bir, asked another, "No," aejiin ! replied the gentleman (his cooler rising). " Jccidental, sir," enquired an; importunate third. V No-o," replied the gentleman ; thoroughly exasperated at last* A small boy here poked his head through the crowd, and quietly asked, " Lnnatic Asylum, sir," causing roars of laughter amongst, the.spectators.
