RUMOURED JJitiUUVeRY OP RICH QUARTZ. (united pjjess association.) Christchurch, August 4. Fitty-eight applications for diamond prospecting licenses at Alford Forest, covering an area of 1500 acres, have been lodged at the Waste Lands Office. Six joint stock companies are already forms, and others are m process of formation. Great excitement prevails. It is rumoured that rich quartz has been found m Rakaia Gor^e, bub the statement is not confirmed.
