THE BREAD QUESTION.
[to the editor of the standard.,] SiR,-rnl am reliably informed that two of the bakers who have signed the 1101,1---ficatioruif an-increase ©i price of bread are now actually delivering bread in A&hurst, and are only charging 3d per loaf there ! And yet we in town are expected to pay 4d ! . Really it is time the public took some steps to resist this imposition on the part of the bakers, which is becomming unbearable. It appears that it pays to deliver bread at Ashurt, 8 miles away, and get a penny a loaf less than is charged in Palmerston. How long, is this kind of thing to; be put up with ? The baker who first withdraws from;, the combination and acts fairly to the public will command the whole trade. 1 knew very well that those who signed would n6t loag act, fair-ly breach other.—lam} &Q>, . . «'.' ...!-,■■ ; • ■ ' '.'■' 1 .
