MYSTERIOUS OCCURRENCE.
(By Tblsgraph.) ' (USITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) "Wellington, December 11. An elderly woman named Hamlin died m the hospital under peculiar circumstances Fast night. She. ig a residertt of a SsoVes'" Valley, Upper Hutt, and on the 30th ult., when entering her- house, a lad fired a gun, there was noßhotinthe gun, but the powder lodged m her left arm above the wrist. Amputation was found necessary, but ihe-j old. lady succumbed under the operation. She was aged 70, and it is not yet known under what circumstances tbe gun was fired. The police have gone out to make inquiries.
