TERRIBLE ACCIDENT AT WESTPORT.

(BY T RLE GRAPH.) (united press association.) We'TPirt, February 12. A terrible accident occurred on the Westport Coal Company's incline this afternoon. Joseph Brown, a butcher, and member of the County Council,and Mr William Harrison, storekeeper, of Waimangaroa, and Mr Denision, inspector, were ascending m an empty truck when the shackling of the descending loaded truck broke, and the full truck dashed into the empty one, killing Brown instantly and seriously injuring Harrison. The latter has just . been brought into the hospital. Brown j leaves a wife and a large family. Later. The doctor pronounces Harrison out of danger. Brown's back and . neck were broken.
