THE CAREY TRAGEDY.

' (Per Mail Steamer.) The Dublin journal, United Ireland, of January 3rd publishes a fresh account of the killing of Carey, the informer, by O'Donnell, written by a gentleman who received it from the latter. It shows that Q'Dpnnell deliberately killed Carey. There was no struggle, and Carey made uo al tack on Q'Donnell. Had Judge Denman allowed O'Donnell to speak he would have told the whole story about the killing. O'Donnell was not acquainted with Carey on the voyage, from England to the Cape of Good Hope. He was not a member of any society. He recognised Carey by a wood-cut which he saw at Capetown, and resolved to Mil him. He iniended to go with him to a farm at Port Elizabeth which Carey had told him he was going to take, and thus show that there wae no spot where Carey could lie safe. Finding himself, however, alone with Carey, ho coulid not resist the desii c to kill him. Carey perpefvpd hjs danger and HaicJ, " Do you jjnuw me }'• O'Donnell replied, "You are Carey,

the intornier ; to h with yon." The bullet spud with the words, and t\w deed was done. Carey clutched at his own revolver, but too Lite. O'Donnell fired two shots and Carey rolled to the desk. Nobody saw the encounter except O'Donnell's companion, who threw her arms around him and filled the ship with her cries. He told her that morning ho meant to kill Carey, and would hang for it. When Mrs Carey reached the scene O'Donnell said to her, " I had to do it."
