A lecture was announced to be delivered m Wellington last evening, tho subject being/Spiritualism, an Epidemic Delusion." In our local columns m last issue, we had a paragraph illustrative of the efficacy of advertising, m the recovery of a lost dog, advertised by a settler of Stoney Creek, and found by Mr Astbury of the Awahuri Road. Late on Friday evening we learnt that Mr Bryant, of Fitzherbert, had also found the missing animal, both persons being positive that the animal m their possession is the indentical one advertised. The settler has now a chance of getting two dogs for his one. Here again comes m the benefit of advertising. We remind our readers of Pastor Gaustad's lecture this evening, at tho Public Hall, at 7:30 o'clock, the subject being a reply to Mr Walton's recent discourse on Spiritualism. His Worship tho Mayor will preside. There will no doubt be a numerous and appreciative audience. The service at the Wcsleyan Church yesterday evening was throughout peculiarly relative to the birthday just comemoratcd of England's Queen. The Rev. Mr Bunn preached an excellent sermon suitable to to the occasion, though we think the Rev. gentleman's description of Royalty's virtues slightly overdrawn. At the conclusion of the service the congregation rose and sang the National Anthem. The first meeting of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Class, connected with the Wesleyan body, will be hold at the schoolhouse this evening. After the president's opening address the meeting will take the form of a social gathering. It is hoped there will be a large gathering. The Volunteer ball given m the drill shed on Saturday evening was a thorough success. Tho hall was crowded to excess, making it, however, somewhat uncomfortable.for dancing. Mr J. C. Sly was to-day nominated as a candidate for the Road Board. A man named Haggerty, who was thrown off his horse on Saturday and injured, is making good progress towards recovery under Dr. Macintire's care. It is said that it is unhealthy to sleep m feathers. We don't believe it, for look at the spring chicken, and see how he is.
