It is announced tli.it Mr Kedmond, the member for Woxford, and Mr Sexton, the member for Sligo, are makinsr necessary arrangements for a visit to Australia. The Adelaide Town and Country Bank huve established a branch office m London. It is now considered certain that the Recidivistca Bill will be passed by the French members without amendment. A subsequent compromise is, however, possible. The technical commission which is to meet m Pans to consider the proposal for widening the Suez Canal has been officially confirmed. Sir Andrew Clark is to represent the Australian colonies on the commission. The prospectus will be issued tomorrow ot the new Oriental Banking Corporation with a capital of £2,000,000 m £10 ahares. The first i.ssuo of shares will be for £1,000,000. June 3. The committee of the French Senate have prepared thoir draft report. They approve the general provisions of the Kecidivistes Bill, and confirm the proposal to transport criminals to New Caledonia and French Guinea. They have, however, expunged clause 3, which proposed to utilise the Marquesas or Mendona Islands, m the Pacific Ocean, as penal settlements. The committee further expre ses their approval of the suggestion re the release of criminals after they have served six years' imprisonment m the places to which they may be- transported.
