Higher Education.

[Wanganui Herald.} Seldom have the Education Board's meetings been so lively as was today's. The Inspector m giving his report of the examinations dealt very severely with the many errors which had been made. Amongst the most laughable that were read out, were the following. One teacher made Wai pole, Lord Mayor of London ; and another is responsible for the assertion John Wycliffe was a leador m the rebellion of Charles the Second's reign. The geographical knowledge of some was exceedingly accu»ite; for instanoe one gravely states that Bunker's Hill is a place m Kilkenny, (perhaps the Yankees could say whether the battln of Bunker's Hill, was m any way like the fight of the Kilkenny cats.) Another candidate informs us that the British possessions m America include Cape Colony, and the United States. But what wijl our Wellington friends say on learning" thai, that city is the capital of the Lower Hutt (fact, a pupil teacher says so.) To take two other instances of (he foolish answers given ,• one teacher says that the roundness of the earth U proved by going' up m a balloon, while another, wh.o evidently knows all about the late rains, Bays ' that the rain is sent to keep up the supply of water.
