♦ CHINESE REPARATION. {Special to the Standard.) [by cable.] Shanghai, July 31. A report is current here to-day that the Chinese Government have agreed to pay France the sum of five millions sterling, as reparation for the Langson affair. No confirmatory reliable information on the subject, however, can be obtained. Later. The amount actually offered is five million taels; say a million and j a-half sterling.
