(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ArQKLAND, Sept. 5. The goods train from Te. Awamntu to Auckland ran off the line near Rangiri last evening, through the loopline not being properly lixed. Fortunately the engine driver noticed the points out of place before coming up, and shut off the steam, otherwise serious loss of life and damage to property would have resulted. As jfc was, several rails and sleepers were torn up. The charge of child murder against Rosina Smith was partly heard today, and was adjourned till' Tuesday next. Chuistchurch, Sept. 5. At the inquest to-day on Waiter Layette, who perished m the tire at Feather's Hotel yesterday, no fresh facts were adduced, except that deceased was accustomed to read and smoke m bed. The vnrdict was ac* cidentally burnt to death.
