o _ — The Galveston (Tex.) Fews 0f 251h February, says:— "Miss Nellie Burke, the'champion long-distance lady rider, yesterday afternoon fulfilled her promise to ride 100 miles m five hours at. Beach Park. There was a large number of people m attendance, the number being estimated at 8000. The lady accompltehnd the arduous fea», and actually rode 102 miles and 1073 ft., m 4h. 40inin. 35sec., making 361 turns of the track and 54 changes of horses, using 13 animals m the ran. Mis 3 Burke,, at the close of the race ugainst time, did not appear m any sense to be exhausted, and the following night was refreshed toihe extent that she was enabled to attend the performance, at the Opera House. Ifc is said that the record made by Mies Burke surpasses anything of the b;ind that has ever been attempted. It was a subject of comment after the race and during the evenings.
