Wesleyan Church.

TEA MEETING AND CONCERT,

The' gathering at the above church was perhaps the largest and moat suc.cessful public meetings which has yet taken place within the walls of the new Sanctuary. The tea meeting was held m the school house adjoining tho church where the ladies had a number of tables laid out with choice eatables, among which were placed beautiful boquets of hothouse and garden flowers giving a bright and cheerful appearance to the sur^oupdjngs. So many attended the tea that the building was crowded to excess and tea, we believe, was served two or three^ times, those first arrived giving place to* cithers coming later and so on till all were attended to. At the concert and public meeting; held afterwards m tho church the building Was well tilled. Mrß.Leary occupied the chair, and explained the objepts of the gathering, viz., to raise fundsj to equal the amount of £350t0 be lent out of the u Church Building and Loan Fund," to pay ofE the debt on the church. The cantata, "Nativity" was rendered by the choir during the remainder of the evening interspersed with addressee 1 from .the Revs. Simmonds, of Sandon, and R. S. Buun of Palmerston North. Of the singing we cannot speak in too great terms of praise. Mr Hartley always succeeds m any musical undertaking hetakes charge of, and certainly the rendering of this work under, his baton was a treat long to be remembered fcythe audience. Miss Mowlera acted efficiently as organist during the evening. Printed forms were Handed round duriug the entertainment for those willing to fill m promising to subscribe towards the liquidation of the debt on the church. We believe a considerable sum was realized m this way augmented by some large amounts promised by individual members. It is expected the debt will be diminished to a great extent by the financial result of last night's meeting, and the Wesleyan body are to be congratulated on the successful termination of their meeting. < .j
