Libel Case.
[BY TELEGRAPH, j , Wanganui, This. Day. ' The liUel case is concluded. The verdict of the jury last night has given plaintiff tlauages for ten pounds. Judu,e iiichmond declined to certify to costs for special jury, which are to >c borne by defendants The coses to be paid by defendants are fixed at lowest scale. The verdict is considered to be m favour of the defendants. Three of the jury held out for furthing damages. Mr Shaw made a telling address to the jury. The hoar ing of the case excited considerable interest, and the Courthouse was crowded during the hearing, there beiug a largo audience of the publio to hear the verdict given. Latee. It is now known that eight of the jury in> the lilie) case held out for a farthing damages, but that after being locked up for three hours rather than remain all night tin ee-fouvths of the jury agreed to a compromise of ten pounds tlamaget, which is virtually equivalent to a farthing, as each amount carries the same propoition of costs on the lower scale. .
