The Central Route.
Thd Auckland Herald, m referring to the report of the Parliamentary Committee m favour of the central route from Te Awamutn to Marton tor the North Island Trunk Line, counsels the Auckland mombers to accept the decision against the Strat ford line rather than by factious opposition on behalf of it~ to bring the session to. a close without the commencement of , the trunk line being sanctioned It goes on to say :", The great thing, we submit, is to get the trunk lino fairly under weigh, which even along the central mute will certainly be of as much advantage to Auckland as it can be to Wellington, and then at the proper time go m hcavt and rioul for the further estal>lishing of railway communication with the "West Coast, via Stratford. Let us take now what can be obtained, reserve our strength for the obtaining of something more when circumstances will prove favorable to our plans. To employ that strength at present would simply amount to wasting it. By holding it m leash for a lime, we can select the opportunity best fi^eJ for the more effectual security of our game."
