George Thomas reports produce prices as follows: Oats still continue to improve, and now stand at 3s to 3s 3d with an upward tendency. "Maize (scarce), 4s 9d ; whole fowls' wheat, 2s lOd to 3s ; flour still remain* at £9 to £9 10s. Onions are almost out of the market, and quotations prohibit much business being done. In dairy produce business is active, and cheese moves off readily at 5d ; butter (fresh), lOd ; salt: do, 10 to lid; bacon and hams of Canterbury cure rule from B£d to lOd ; eggs, lid to ll£d ; fowls, 5s ; ducks, 6s ; turkeys, 10s per pair.
