Thompson, late SurveyQeneral, died at Inverc&rgill to-day. He had recently been suffering from a paraletyc stroke. , We notice Captain Walker and other settlers are breaking m their draught horses without blinkers, and find the custom to answer exceedingly well. . A meeting of the Dairy Factory was to be held on the" premises, Longburn, this afternoon. The Bunny tborpe-ioad is m a terrible state, and the settlers have great difficulty m effecting communication between their farms and the main road. Mr W. T. Wood and family left by 12.30 train to-day. A large number of his friends assembled on this platform to see him off and wish him bon voyage. To make room for Borough Council report, we are obliged to bold over report of R,M. Court, also further chapters of descriptive account of the northern section of the West Coast Railway, which i will be continued m to-morrow's issue. Th postponed meeting of Acclimatisation Society will take place on Saturday evening at 8 o'clock at the Club Hotel. The accident at the Awahuri Bridge prevented Mr Lloyd,'a attending the meeting convened for last Tuesday evening at which be would otherwise have been present. A full meeting of members is specially requested for Saturday evening, as business of importance is to be transacted. - •
