Beet Root Sugar.
: The jßeethKPQt ; S?gar, Bill introduced by Sir JuHuk ( iVToge^ provides that, the Colonial Treasure!* shall pay i out of the consolidated fund, one halfpenny per pound on the. first 1000 tony of sugar produced from.beet root or sorgb uin - ; in, , .' the , colony. It ia further stipulated that no ( duty shall ;be levied for fifteen, .'on sugar produced m the colony from fyeet root or from sorghum grown m the colony, while U\£t, present import duty of one half-penny per continues ; but, if the latter duty is increased) an ex. ciso duly; may be levied on sugar produced ,m the colony, always providing that the excise duty on the local article is one half-penny less than the import duty. In the event of the import, di^jty being reduce^ o or removed during the next fifteen-years a bonus equivalent to such reduction' is to be paid to persons producing sugar m the colony. f -
