Hawera, and Pahiatr-a; at 'distances respectively Irom Masterton of about fourteen miles, thirty-one miles, thirty five miles, and forty miles. The Mangahap sections are , within fourteen miles of the Town of] Wood.ville. , ' .The. Main Trunk Eailway ..from Wellington to Napier is now being constructed to a point about seventeen miles north of Masterton. Sites for railway stations have been selected iati several, points. .;"'." The whole of the sections aie : covered with forest, ihe princ*ip'al trees 1 being tawa, rim'u, hinau, vata, kahi : , katiia, with, totara m places j the undergrowth is, as a rule, heavy ; the general character of the soil is good, and m some places is of first-class quality, the formation being limeRtone, clay marl, sandstone, &c. The country is generally hilly and undulating, but there are Jarg'e -nV-.s as well as bijoken ground within the area ;it is well watered, ' and, as ' the climate is also very favourable' the land should, when cleared and brought into cultivation, prove woll adapted for pastoral and; to some extent, agricultural purposes. • ' ' ' ■ "• ' .
