CHHISTCHITRCn, Dec. 1. i An influential meeting re West Coant railway was held this evening, .when it was decided to undertake preliminary arrangements for constructing the line, and a committee appointed to take the necessary steps. The meeting was private. The details have not transpired. Mr R. Hill's well known stud greyhound Champagne Charlie was accidentally killed m his kennel on Thursday last. Dunedin, Dec. 1. The Department also intend to let by contract the unfinished unemployed section of the Hindon cqntraot. Hawer-a, Dec. 2, Roskell, defaulting raily way station manager at Norman by, was again brought up to-day, but was further remanded. The defalcations are reported to be heavy. A Druids' Lodge was successfully opened at Hawcia last evening by W. K. Bishop.
