A " scene " took place on Tuesday m St. Patrick's Church, Masterton. A youthful couple, one of whom hailed from Cross 1 Creek, were to be married by the Rev. Father Treacy on that day. After the bride, all smiles and orange blossoms, had set-out for the church, the bridegroom found he had yet to procure the necessary license from the Registrar. On going to remedy his omission it was discovered that the bride was under age, and the Registrar could do no more than shake his head and express his sympathy for the disappointed groom. When the unpleasant news was brought to the bride-elect, the young lady instead of swooning into, her lovers' arms, as the heroine m a novel or on the stage would have done, or weeping bitterly and wringing her hands, as a plebian bride of an unromantic disposition would have behaved, flew into an ungovernable passion, toye her bridal veil into shreds, and unceremoniously fled the church.
